Cross Laminated Timber is NOT the new Concrete -
Lessons learnt from aggressive innovation
Timber engineering comes on apace and this discussion focuses on its uptake over the last 20 years, particularly as a variety of outcomes begin to manifest themselves. The one-size-fits-all approach to structural design, the relevance of professional responsibility in uncertain design conditions and the true costs of experimentation are subjects worthy of review and as well a couple of timber repair projects are presented.
Matthew Wells is a chartered structural engineer and architect. He graduated from Leeds University in 1977 and worked for Alan Baxter, Tony Hunt and Tim Macfarlane before practice with Techniker Ltd. designing building structures, the occasional bridge, in all kinds of materials and construction methods. His favourite structural medium is steel, its God-given properties and the elegance of its analytical methods
This discussion is about timber engineering and based on a webinar given on 28th September 2020 and organised by InnoByg Denmark.
